Golf Tire Buying Guide

Whether you’re interested in buying a new or used golf cart, there’s a part of the vehicle that customers often don’t realize they need special attention: their tires.

There is currently a wide variety of tire types on the market, and it’s important that you choose a golf cart or ATV that not only meets your internal comfort needs but also has tires designed to fit your plans and lifestyle.

What You Need To Know About Tires Before Buying?

Different Landscapes Different Needs
The answer to this question depends largely on what your golf cart or specialized vehicle needs.

Are you looking to pick up a golf cart for personal use in the neighborhood or take it on your golf trips? If so, the default tires that come with your vehicle will probably work fine. These tires are generally manufactured for use on very well-maintained and landscaped roads or lawns like those on a golf course and will last very well with regular use in these areas.
On the other hand, if your lifestyle involves a lot of going out into the woods or maneuvering on mountainous, rocky or sandy terrain, you may want to upgrade to off-road tires. We have these available as part of our customization options, and larger tires and deeper treads will not only give you a better grip on the ground and help maintain stability but will also become less damaged by contact with rocks, tree branches or transporter heavier weights on unpaved roads.

Tires For Golf Carts For Turf/Street

Urban and street-style golf cart tires are by far the most common tires you’ll see in a golf cart, and unless you’ve done some customization to your cart, it’s likely to be the type of tire your cart uses.

The lawn/street style tires are designed to be sensitive to golf course turf and provide the smoothest possible ride. If you only intend to drive the cart around your neighborhood or on the golf course, sticking with the factory tires of the golf cart is probably the best choice for you. However, if you plan to do more than just drive back and forth to the pool or run to the countryside for a 9 quick lap, read on for some other tire options!

Off-Road Golf Cart Tires

The next type of golf cart tire we’ll see is designed for off-road use. Off-road golf cart tires will have knob-shaped treads to grip uneven surfaces and provide extra traction when driving in wooded or rocky areas.

If you plan to use your golf cart for hunting trips or camping expeditions, off-road tires are the best way to go. However, off-road tires are extremely bumpy when driving on the street and are also not allowed on golf courses, so you should keep this in mind when choosing which tires to buy for your cart.

All-Terrain Golf Cart Tires

Finally, let’s take a look at the off-road golf cart tires. While off-road golf cart tires are not yet allowed on the golf course, they make the pavement much softer than the SUV.

Like off-road tires, off-road tires have knotty footprints, but they are much shallower than their off-road counterparts. These tires are designed to give you the best of both worlds: enough grip to give you traction while in the woods or on the beach, but not so much that road driving is uncomfortable.

Looking To Buy A Used Golf Cart?

Check out the last tire replacement!
The tires in golf carts are not very different from normal car tires, except in scale and for what type of use they are intended. Golf cart tires tend to be manufactured primarily for use on paved roads and golf course terrain or for off-road use.

These tires, even the most durable types reserved primarily for commercial or rural use, will eventually wear out and need replacement. When you buy your used golf cart, be sure to ask about the latest tire replacement.

When You Need Bigger Tires

When buying custom tires, there are differences in size and tread. Most golf carts are only designed for an 18-inch tire, and installing larger custom tires will require a lifting kit. These kits are durable and safe and create exceptional stability when installing prior to the installation of large off-road tires.

The greater the ground clearance you get from lifting your golf cart higher in the air, the greater help you will get. Avoid obstacles and minimize any damage to the bottom and frame of your cart by lifting your golf cart with large tires in areas such as forests, uneven grounds, beaches or rocks.

Buying or owning a golf cart can be tricky. Branding, color, customization options, and tire types are factors that need to be considered at some point in the process.

Once you find out which type of golf cart tire best suits your needs, you should decide where to buy and install it.
