Frequently Asked Questions

Where Can I Drive My Electric Car ?

There are two main types of Golf Carts, one that can run in a park/golf course and one on a local street. Street Golf Carts are limited to areas of private property such as driveways, backyards, front yards, private farms, parks, airports etc. Golf Carts also have to meet certain state standards criteria to be able to driven on local streets in certain counties. The basic rule is, you can drive your electric cart wherever it is allowed to drive a Low Speed Vehicle usually below 35 mph. Nonetheless, you must adhere to the vehicle laws depending on your state. You need to check your state laws to make sure you are not taking out your cart to where you are not supposed. Golf Carts are called an LSV (low speed vehicle). They need to have VIN number, vehicle insurance, and all the required state law items such as signal lights, seat belts, lights, and proper registration.

How Do I Maintain My Golf Cart Batteries ?

Open the caps of the battery and check the water level. If low, fill only with distilled water. For the best battery life don’t use tap water. It is important to clean the Golf Cart batteries and the compartment they are inside. Use a garden hose to flush off the wire terminals, batteries. Sprinkle baking soda on top of the batteries to neutralize any residue of acid so you don’t get burned. Your golf cart batteries should be charged after each use even if the charge hasn’t gone down all the way. For the longest life they should not be allowed to discharge entirely. Be sure to unplug the AC cord before unplugging from the cart if you interrupt a charge mid-term charge.

Which is better, a Battery operated Golf cart or a Gas Golf Cart?

General consensus says Battery operated Golf Carts are better than Gas ones. Battery operated are easy to maintain, costs less to use, make less noise, do not produce emissions and in most cases are an overall better option.

What’s the difference between a 36V golf cart and a 48V cart?

You might think that 48 volt is a more powerful system, that is not true. Even though 48V is a higher voltage it does not equate to more power all of the time. Golf carts have a certain amount of amperage controllers. This is one of the main power receiving features, another being the motor. Every maker has a different size motor and controller with different settings for the two systems. Consequently, 48 volts doesn’t necessarily mean that you get more energy. It’s the various drive systems that allow you to climb the steep hills. By switching the controller and/or motor a well-designed carts can run over 40MPH.

How long will my Golf cart travel with full battery charge?

Golf carts normally travel between 30-50 miles but, depending on the terrain you drive, the load you carry, and the age of your batteries, they can reach more than 50 miles on one charge. Older, more diluted batteries drain quicker and hence give lower total driving mileage.

How to make my Golf Cart street legal?

Golf carts must follow the same criteria for identification, insurance and enforcement as other low speed vehicles on the road to be considered legal for use and meet all DMV requirements. Typically, a license plate is required. ALWAYS check with the DMV!

Are Golf Carts Safe ?

Definitely golf carts are now designed to be safe to be driven on low-traffic roads. And of course the gas powered and battery powered golf carts are safe for use on golf courses, in warehouses, parking lot transport, modular home parks and even farms/acreages. HOWEVER like any mechanized machine one must adhere to safe driving practices.
